PURPOSE

Safety is the number one value for Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative (GFC).

GFC’s Board, management and staff are committed to providing safe and healthy working conditions for the prevention of work-related injuries and ill health, for all employees, contractors and other relevant interested parties involved with our business.

OBJECTIVES

Our Health and safety objectives are:

• Identify, assess, and control workplace hazards and risks to provide a healthy and safe workplace.
• Remain abreast of current advancements and trends relating to Health and Safety.
• Ensure consultation and participation of workers, and where they exist worker’s representatives.
• Define and meet objectives, by documenting and monitoring measurable occupational health and safety objectives and targets.
• Ensure senior management lead by example and are responsible for Health and Safety outcomes.
• Monitor, evaluate and fulfill all relevant legal and other requirements.
• Create an environment and culture where every employee:
  • has a genuine desire to keep fellow employees, GFC contractors and visitors safe.
  • has a genuine desire to act safely; and
  • is empowered to speak up if they feel something is unsafe.
• Ensure all employees are appropriately trained and aware of their Health and Safety obligations.
• Create Health and Safety processes that are easy to understand, using simple and straightforward terms.
• Continually monitor and improve our health and safety performance and the effectiveness of our Safety Management System.
• Ensure that Safety results and plans are presented to the board for engagement and review.
• Ensure that Safety is raised regularly at team meetings and remains top of mind.
• Ensure that this policy is retained as documented information, and available to interested parties.
• Review this policy every 24 months.
